I heard Lukasz’s composition for “Ja tu jestem” for the first time in the subway. I remember I was crossing the Oberbaumbrücke and looking out over the Spree. I was excited by the beat and immediately had lots of ideas for melodies and wanted to get out quickly to record them. I wanted the lyrics to be in Polish. We both have Polish roots, even from the same region, and found it exciting to combine this with our current life in Berlin. I was also pregnant at the time and thought it was cool to feel the baby’s movements in my stomach. While brainstorming for the lyrics, the sentence “Czuje twoje ruchy / I feel your movements” was buzzing around in my head. The entire text then emerged from this line. For me, it is a call to be seen and heard, but at the same time with a deep sense of calm that the call will not go unheard. The middle part of the song was inspired by my grandma’s garden and the old trees that my grandpa planted there.
