Lyrics

Neon Dark

Your feet, your back
Your head, your hands
I know you so well
And somehow I still don’t
And somehow I still don’t
I’m connected with you as nobody else ever was

And it’s remarkable
That it really doesn’t matter how you look
And it’s remarkable
Everything really matters
I can see you without eyes
Your feet, your back
Your heart and beat
I know you so well
And somehow I still don’t
And somehow I still don’t
I’m connected with you as nobody else ever was

For society it doesn’t matter yet
For me it never will

I can see you without eyes
I can see you
I can see you without eyes
I see you
I can see you without eyes

You’re mine and I’m yours
I see you without eyes
You’re mine and I’m yours
I see you without eyes
I don´t need my eyes
I don´t need my eyes

I don´t need my eyes
I don´t need my eyes
I see you
I don´t need my eyes
I see you
I see you

Story

Neon dark was the original title of the song, even before my lyrics and vocals existed. I found the music dark from the first time I heard it, but somehow with a glow, so the title “neon dark” fit perfectly with the feeling the music gave me. One day I was sitting in Prenzlauer Berg on the way to a band meeting. The Tram just wouldn’t come, so I listened to Neon Dark on loop to get inspired and actually finished writing the lyrics at the tram stop. I was a bit late with Lukasz, but we were able to record the song straight away. Even though the title doesn’t appear in the lyrics, we wanted to leave it as it was because we felt it fit the feeling of the music so well.
The lyrics speak about connections to certain people. They can be so deep that we can feel these connections even when we can’t see the person. Just like Saint-Exupéry’s quote says: “You can only see well with your heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes.” At the same time, the song mentions the contradiction between the judgment of society, which people are often exposed to from birth, and this absolutely unconditional love towards an individual we know. Will it ever be important, what society has to say about you? For me, it never will.
